Symptoms and effects of orthorexia

We experience an obsession with healthy eating and maintaining a slim figure on the one hand, and on the other hand, the tendency to pathologise an increasing number of human behaviours. For this reason, a number of symptoms associated with orthorexia are easily underestimated or overlooked. Most often it is only a psychological issue in which food problems become so powerful that other aspects of life suffer neglect. In rare cases, however, orthorexia can lead to serious consequences and even death through malnutrition.

The most common symptoms of orthorexia

  1. habitual checking of nutritional labels and ingredient lists
  2. increasing concern about the healthiness of ingredients
  3. giving up an increasing number of food products
  4. inability to eat anything but a narrow group of “accepted” food products
  5. excessive interest in the healthiness of what others are eating
  6. experiencing serious distress when “safe” or “healthy” foods aren’t available

Treatment for orthorexia

Orthorexia treatment

Unlike the efforts of anorexics to constantly reduce body weight, the people suffering from orthorexia are forced to attain higher and higher levels of dietary perfection – to feel completely clean, pure and transparent. At The Kusnacht Practice, we look beyond the physical symptoms to find the right responses to your psychical and spiritual needs. Detailed laboratory and environmental analyses allow us to present a unique treatment plan, medical restoration and relaxation therapy in the milieu of a luxury rehab resort that will fit your personal needs.

We provide the very best care and comfort. The investment starts at CHF 93,000 per week, depending on the requirements of the individual client. Fees are settled directly by the client (we do not work with insurance companies) and we can supply written quotations upon request.

The Kusnacht Practice services are not covered by Swiss health insurances. All costs are to be covered directly by the clients. Patients who are domiciled in Switzerland and are therefore mandatorily health insured may be reimbursed by their health insurance for medical services in accordance with the Federal Law on Health Insurance (KVG) and its implementing provisions.
